How To Protect Your Child From Cyber Crimes

The internet has a wide range of data. Ranging from academic content to non-academic information. Also, the sites can be kid-friendly or unfriendly to your child. However, you can not do away with the internet. For that reason, how can you protect your children from falling victims of cybercrimes? Here is a secret for you!

▪ Order for a high-quality tablet

There are millions of fun learning devices in the market. And not all of these gadgets are capable of providing your child with the standards of education he deserves. Remember, quality education will determine the understanding and performance of your children both in class and out of the classroom.

Your kids deserve to interact with an academic device that can provide the services relevant for their age, and level of education. For that reason, the tablet that contains the following features should be considered.

✔ The device should be Wi-Fi enabled

For your children to access the internet, there needs to be a system that can help connect to the online world. And Wi-Fi is the mainstream for your kids to surf online. However a little bit of restriction on how long they stay connected needs to be put in place.

✔ Enough storage space

With space, you can download online data for your child to read through later. A ROM of 16GB and above will provide your children with enough content to read through instead of going to the internet. As a result, you will have saved your child from the risks of the internet, and saved on the bundles your child will spend every time they participate in online gaming.

Age-Appropriate Learning Applications Are The Ones That Will Provide Your Children With The Relevant Data They Require For Their Schooling Purposes, And Their Social Growth And Development.

✔ A strong processor speed

How long does your child take to retrieve the content they want from the internet? The slow access to any online content can make your children divert from the initial reason for the search and end up interacting with other inappropriate sites.

✔ Presence of a crystal clear camera

Kids like surfing online to get games and to access movies. But think of it this way, providing your child with a classic camera that can capture artistic pictures and create amazing videos. This will divert them from spending time in risky online activities.

Though the internet has much to offer your child, at times restricting how much your children interact with it is a necessary weapon to protect your kids from unexpected uncertainties.

▪ Install age-appropriate apps

The type of information your children interact with will dictate the kind of searches they will make while online. For that reason, you need to be strict when it comes to learning application identification and installation.

Once your kids gain access to what is not right for them, they will be triggered by the content to start finding out more about the concept. In return, your children will be stuck in sites that are prone to online trafficking.

▪ Installation and activation of parental controls

There are those gadgets that come loaded with this safety-guarantee app. Therefore, the only step you need to take is to activate the application. However, for the tools that come with no parental controls, it is up to the parents or guardians to access the software from the play store, download, and install it for activation.

This feature will serve you and your children in various ways. You will no longer be worried about your child’s safety when you are not around. The app acts by providing the following services

✔ Limit the time spent on the device

It is obvious that once kids are left alone, they will spend much time on the gadget than what is expected. For that reason, you need to develop a mechanism that will help monitor the time your kids use surfing through the device.

All you need to do is to create a plan that will work by, automatically switching off the device.

✔ Restrict the type of content your children interact with during online surfing.

The websites your kids’ surf through will determine the kind of safety your children will experience. There are sites that are prone to misleading ads. For that reason, installing parental control will help keep your children safe every day they have the gadget.

To ensure you have information regarding which sites your children need to access at a certain age and grade, educators go through different webs. After filtering the content of the site, they categorize the web according to the class it is appropriate for. To familiarize yourself with such content, all you need is to get the list from your child’s school outlining the sites relevant for her. After that, you will highlight the apps in your child’s parental control profile.

✔ Give feedback on how your children have been interacting with their tablets.

All you need to confirm your curiosity about the kind of data your kids read is by creating a program that will record every activity done on the device. Parental control has a setting that allows for recording, analyzing, and giving

Therefore, preparing your kids properly by talking about the dangers of internet misuse, will help keep them away from apps that are not kid-friendly.

* Talk to your children about the tactics that unscrupulous online business personnel use to trap unsuspecting kids. Teach them how to get themselves out of the trap, and much more pertaining to their safety.

In Conclusion

Hi Jack. This post was interesting to me because I had my first grandbaby this year. Yesterday, I had a conversation about Leap Frog and a learning app they have, which I am looking for. The problem is that my friend could not remember the name of it. When she used it, they were only DVD’s (lol). How time flies, right? In any case, I’m glad to see that you also recommend this brand.

    ~All the best

Thank you for this great and informative post!

Too many times I’ve seen people focused on content only and not giving any other factors considered.

Yes, content is very important but security, quality, features and so on are also important.  A great tablet is one that can grow with your child and offer the technical capabilities that they’ll use today as well as down the line.  Camera, storage space, etc.  These may not be important to a 1-year-old, but I guarantee they will be to a 5 or 7-year-old.

I love that you’ve also touched on limiting the child’s time with the device (too many times parents hand over devices to “calm” their child).  Parental controls are quite important too.

    Thanks again,

    Scott
