As we already know the internet is an amazing resource for everyone, from Wikipedia, to easily processing homework in a more effective manner, to learning how to write an essay at an incredibly young age.

The bottom line is as our children are growing up in this hi-tech society, the best safeguard is how well we personally educate them, so it is up to us as parents to administer what types of parental controls will be activated on their devices along with our advice with using common sense that we illustrate and role model in their life as well.

Hi, I agree that the leap pad is an excellent device for the 3-7 age group. The games truly age appropriate and captivating for the kids.
What do you think about iPads? I wasn’t sure if it was better to go straight for an iPad first given it will last them longer.

    1. Jack

Thank you, Melissa for your comments, as they are very much appreciated and the whole idea is to gather information for everyone’s best decision to move forward with confidence to purchase the most appropriate Tablet for our kids.when it comes to dedicated learning the Leap Pad is neck to neck with the Ipad, many parents believe the leap pad is suitable up to 9 years old as well. The Leap Pad is just for kids with no worry they will have to share it, it is extremely durable and kid tested in a tumbler, so that added piece of mind can go a long way.So at the end of the day, your child knows it is their gadget, and I fell the price is totally a great deal at just 99 dollars. Thank you so much for your comments as they really enhance the deliverance of this post, sincerely Jack

Thank you for your wonderful information on age-appropriate devices. My children had a V-Tech game console that connected to the TV, and it wasn’t bad either! Children now are using learning device’s  at a younger age and I admit I don’t like it when you hardly see children out on the street playing with friends anymore because they are stuck inside playing on their smart tablets. As long as we as parents police the usage, I think any device is OK, but I wouldn’t give an IPAD or a Samsung to a 6-year-old. I think the LeapFrog is perfect for that emergent age.

    1. Jack

Thank you, Deborah, it is certainly different these days, especially when I was a kid. Where have we gone wrong, the world is so fast paced now, in many homes both parents have to work, or unfortunately there is only one parent.

As I had stated in a lot of my posts, it is coming to the point where textbooks will be obsolete, as everything will be at the fingertip, with these modern Tablets. Some of the attributes of these learning devices are helping kids that are struggling with learning cures as well. So as parents how are we engaging with our kids and knowing their needs as well, are we giving them goals, and relating to their feelings. Certainly, that will help, as always I appreciate all feedback from everyone out there to give us better knowledge of the needs and difficulties we face with our kids every day

    Great post and good info.

My sister’s children are now between 5 and 9, so that is the perfect age for this I think. They learn so fast indeed, and you know, you say you can consider it, well as what I heard from her the school already shows things on the tablet to them, how things work, and exercises, but playable ones.

Now, it is clear that the children of today will grow so smart, and so fast, that I think it is necessary to buy one.

Anyway, you explain the things very well, thanks a lot for that!

One thing is for certain, it’s not really the age of the child but the ability that matches them to a particular learning device. One great thing about devices like the leap pad is self-paced learning – the child is not held up by the rest of a class and can learn anywhere and anytime. Another great thing is the device doesn’t make mistakes – it provides perfect instruction every time.

Another awesome post by Jack. I love the simplicity at which you write, precise and straight to point. As I say it’s not only about reading books all the time, they get bored and lose interest. Introduce a device like this, and you will be amazed by the results. I’ve seen that device before, and it’s everything you describe here.

  10. Dave Sweney

A very thoughtful and useful post, knowing about the best computer tablets for kids is something that anyone who has a child (or a grandchild in my case) needs to know what is available and what features to look for. I have 6 grandchildren, and we have laptops, smartphones, and reading devices in the house that we really do not want the kids to have access to.

This is not because we have anything bad on any of them, more it is a matter that if they use them and inadvertently type in some site using Google, they may see some things they really do not need to be seeing or reading about. Therefore your post is very helpful to me and my wife (and a lot of other people too I am sure).

Your advice to look at the Consumer reports  site to see which may be the best for the kids is appreciated, I will follow that for sure. We are in the process of getting a few of these units, and really want to get the right type unit for our peace of mind. There have to be some parental controls bottom line.

These days all the kids are getting online at an earlier age, but it does not mean that we have to give them access to everything that can be found on the internet. It would be very neglectful not to protect them from the garbage out there, and we will address this. Great article and thanks!

    1. Jack

Thank you, Dave, for your extremely heartfelt comments that are so relevant to our children’s effective and safe early learning experience, as the thoughts are so conclusive to my personal growth, and the growth of this website in almost all fashions. I really appreciate your heart as a grandparent to seek the safest and most effective means to introduce your family to their all-inclusive effective hi-tech fun learning experience. I hope to hear from you soon, sincerely, Jack

  11. Vapz

Oh wow, this was a very enlightening article. You did a good job highlighting all the benefits and possibilities that can come from letting the kids have their own appropriate tablets to play with. I used to think the right age should be from about 10 years of age. This LeapPad Epic 7 seems to be made to cater just for children that young. Maybe I should give it a try and if it doesn’t live up to expectation, I can always withdraw it and try when they are older.

    1. Jack

Thank you, Vapaz, for your enlightening and heartfelt comments within our children’s early Learning Blog, as they are a major foundational point of the growth of our site. Actually, these fun early learning tablets are designed for children 3 to 9, they are meant for our children’s very early academic headstart and children that are struggling reading writing and their mathematical skill’s, they are highly structured with the latest and most effective parental control features, so with our intervention the true genius  will be revealed at a much earlier age. I hope to hear from you soon, sincerely, Jack
